There are approximately 900 species of eucalyptus but only about 15 species are used in aromatherapy. Eucalyptus globulus is also known as eucalyptus blue gum and is the most common eucalyptus species used in the production of essential oils. It's important to know which eucalyptus species you are purchasing as they vary in their properties and contraindications.
Eucalyptus globulus is known to help with lower respiratory complaints such as coughs from bronchitis, colds and flus, asthma and upper respiratory complaints. It may also assist in easing symptoms of pneumonia and sinusitis. Eucalyptus may be used as a mental stimulant to improve clarity and focus. It is an emotionally energizing oil.
