The bath can be a place of solace. It can be used to heal the mind from worry, and ease the tension built into our muscles. As winter continues to linger and as we remain in our homes, a bath couldn’t seem any more inviting. There are a number of methods you can use when drawing your bath to ensure you get the most out of your experience.
If you are looking to soothe your dry skin, look no further than the delicious ingredients of milk and honey. Sweet and sticky, the skin softening properties of honey have long been known. In fact, the ancient Egyptians adored lathering their bodies in honey prior to stepping into the water. As the bath water runs, lather the honey onto parts of the body yearning for attention; just before you step in, you can add your milk. Just as a note, make sure you have no task lingering on your mind as you apply the honey to your body. No one wants a sticky naked body running around the house! Also, be sure to rinse your body after a milk bath as any milk residue can create a bit of an odour down the road.
For your Milk & Honey Bath, you'll need:
- Honey ½ cup
- Milk 1-2 cups
Note: You can use powdered milk in place of fresh! 1 cup of milk : 3 tbsp powder
Scent Your Bath
Here’s a short list of some favourite essential oils that you can add to your bath and their properties. Use a maximum of 5 drops of essential oils in 1 tbsp of carrier oil.
- Bergamot: uplifting, bright, and cheerful

- Jasmine: floral, sedating, hypnotic, and eases depression

- Rose: uplifting, eases anxiety and a worried heart
- Sandalwood: grounding, sedating, and meditative
