Handmade Gifts: How to Make a Massage Oil

Handmade Gifts: How to Make a Massage Oil

Here is a simple but really lovely gift that only takes moments to whip up! Give the gift of a decadent massage oil with essential oils chosen for your loved one's specific needs.

Instructions

Massage oil is just so easy! Place 2 mL (approximately 50-60 drops ) of essential oils in a 120 mL bottle and top up to the shoulder of the bottle with carrier oil. Keep the amount of essential oil under 1 mL (about 30 drops) if the massage oil is for someone elderly, in poor health, a young child or a pregnant or breastfeeding woman.

Choosing Your Carrier Oil

This largely comes down to preference, but as a general rule, any lighter-weight oil is good. Coconut oil is a nice one because it doesn't stain sheets, so for sensual massage or anyone applying the oil before bedtime, it just makes sense! Other great options include apricot kernel oil, sunflower oil, grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil or rice bran oil. You could also consider arnica-infused oil for a massage oil meant to address pain. Add jojoba or vitamin E for extra moisturizing nourishment. And feel free to mix any of these in any combination!

Choosing Your Essential Oils

Of course we could write a book on this part (and people have!), but we'll go over a few basic options here. We recommend sticking with a synergy blend, as these have already been blended specifically for common complaints or to meet certain needs. Consider these:

5 Minutes Peace: a soothing, grounding blend with lavender, geranium, marjoram, ylang ylang, clary sage and angelica; perfect for anyone in need of a time-out.

Barry White: this ultra-sensuous blend with sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli and jasmine is our #1 pick for a romantic massage!

Happy Mumma: the perfect blend for new or expectant mummas! With jasmine, frankincense, clary sage, lavender, ylang ylang and rose otto.

Sleep (Zzz...): give the gift of sleepiness to a loved one to whom it doesn't come easily. Marjoram, Roman chamomile and neroli will send them off to dreamland relaxed and calmed.

Solace: formulated to offer support and feelings of safety during tough times, Solace is a wonderful choice for anyone going through hardship.

Tranquil Touch: this blend is the one for any little ones on your list -- especially those with colic! All oils in this blend are safe and gentle for babies and help to calm and comfort during times of distress or discomfort.

Walkin' on Sunshine: the ultimate "happy" blend, Walkin' on Sunshine is sure to put a smile on anyone's face, plain and simple. Features essential oils of tangerine, lime, fragonia, blood orange, cardamom and benzoin for a joyful kick.

Zen Lotus: for a spa-like sense of peace, Zen Lotus is the right choice. This is our top-selling synergy and offers ultimate relaxation.
